You All Know You Do It...
Now, I know almost all of you out there are Superman fanfic authors and I'm going to make a request again. What music do you use to inspire you while you work? I have three seperate songlists for LS. General Purpose/Suspense, Romantic, and Angry/Sexy. I'm just curious to see what all of us use. That, and I need an idea for my new video. If anyone's interested, I'll put up the listings. C'mon, guys, give! :)

Beautiful Noise: Within Temptation-A Dangerous Mind

Well, that really really depends on the scene I'm writing. I usually use music to gain idea's, but when I'm doing the writing itself , I can't have anything too loud or anything. I usually settle for a calm instumental so that I won't be distracted... Only exeptions: when writing action/argument I need something louder (Rock, or the 'rough flight' from the SR soundtrack), and for really sad scenes, like when I wrote Lois' thoughts after Richard died, I had to resort to those weepy "I love you and I'll miss you-songs" that you'll find bunches of on the radio... ;-)

I've got a weird fascination with soundtracks, and they work very well when writing. Not just the SR one. Practically everything by John Williams or Jamer Horner will do... I don't use playlists though... I just scan the bulk and select everything that appeals to me...

Hope this is helpful...

Erm... let's see if I can add some titles to the mix...

Butterfly Boucher - Changes (Shrek soundtrack)
Disney / Animation movie stuff (The Corpse Bride, Nightmare Before Christmas

Jem - Maybe I'm Amazed

Within Temptation - Deciever of Fools

The Quidditch Match (Harry Potter 1)

Well, the SR soundtrack of course, but you already mentioned those... Piano music by Jim Brickman... and some Dutch stuff that won't make any sense to you ;-)

OK, I'll stop here... this should be enough...

Wow, I have some downloads to get, then. Great list, maaike. And about the Dutch, what is it? I have stuff from all over the world. Remixes from Germany, cartoon songs from Japan, the original Russian version of Tatu's songs...

And now the 'Sexy' list...

Sia-Breathe Me (Love this song. I write most of Lois' torn moments to this)

Merideth Brooks-What Would Happen (Yes, it fits on both)

The Rasmus-Shot

Massive Attack-Persian Teardrop

Billie Myers-Tell Me (Warning: Openly suggestively sexual. Not crude, just suggestive.)

Thomas Newman-Whisper Of A Thrill (Meet Joe Black Soundtrack)

Evanescence-Anything (Just Pretend You Love Me)

Meatloaf featuring Marion Raven-It's All Coming Back To Me Now

I'm sure that there is more on my MP3 player for that list, but these are the ones that are already being used for something or are going to be used. 'Persian Teardrop' is especially inspiring for one of the upcoming chapters. :)

Hmm... the Dutch stuff. Mostly by Marco Borsato (I'll use MB is a song is his. Too lazy to write his name out full everytime..):

MB - Niemand
MB - Ik kan het niet alleen

Blof ft. Brainpower - Even stil (or the version without Brainpower, that one's good too.)
MB - Vlinder

MB - de speeltuin
Acda & de Munnik - Lopen tot de zon komt
MB - Margherita
MB - Voor altijd (!!!!)
Acda & de Munnik - Ren Lenny ren (can also be used for frustration)
MB - Lentesneeuw

Acda & de Munnik - De Stad Amsterdam (A song bout sailors in Amsterdam, if you listen to this, think 18th century.. Always makes me happy for some reason)
MB - Rood

Oh, I've tried downloading some of your songs... I can't find Evanescence's 'You' anywhere (I heard it in one of your vids and I loved it). Are you sure that that's the title?
Loiskalalanekent on November 16th, 2006 07:10 pm (UTC)
Yes, that's it. It's just an extremely rare cut off of one of their pre-fame albums. I'll see if I can find a way to send it to you. :) And thanks for the above list. I'm going to need to look for them, too.

You're not going to believe this of the music teacher...

But I have to have things absolutely silent. I think it's because I already have a soundtrack in my head at all times (no lie - even my dreams). I started driving sans-music in the car now, too - better for thinking up ideas. Some of my very best ideas have found me during my silent commute in the morning.
Loiskalalanekent on November 15th, 2006 05:43 am (UTC)
Dare I even ask what the soundtrack is? C'mon, Barbara, explain.
Barbara: Aristocats Jazzhtbthomas on November 15th, 2006 10:35 am (UTC)
Um. It's just that I always have music running through my head, regardless of where I am or what's going on. And it's usually pretty random.

For example, I have the song "Whatsoever You Do" in there now - a song I was asked to teach to the kids so that they could sing it for All-School Mass next week.
Loiskalalanekent on November 15th, 2006 06:14 pm (UTC)
I had wondered if that's what you meant. Seems common enough with musicians. I remember being like that when I was a chorus girl in junior high. Seemed like I was always distracted or humming. Gotta love us musical geeks, huh? *Grin*
