In Which Kala Is *Ahem* Petulant...
Have you ever had one of those moments in your fic that you thought was brilliant, which much planned ahead, and a handful of people either misunderstand it or down-right scorn it even though they have no idea where it's headed?

No, no, it's no one here and present, but it seems that the reveal to the Richana, subtle as it is and will be built on more heavily in the next few chapters, has made several people vocal with their displeasure. And that just hurts. I'd like to think that all of you have come far enough with us to trust us just a little. I'm going to blow a secret here and say that it's essential to the plot and everyone knows we explain our reasoning eventually, but it's already being ranted about. Have you ever know me not to have a reason for doing something? Grrrrr... Reminds me of how some people got about the Richana when it first started. And look how that's caught on....

*throws brickbats in irriation*

Why do I feel like a crabby, spoiled six-year-old who can't be understood? *sigh*

*hugs some more*

As I said on chat, just ignore it. We love you and trust you, and there are always complainers, even about the brilliant things.

Complaints and negative comments are hard to take... but better that than the deafening silence of no readers, eh? *hugs again*

Good point. I don't know why I let it get to me. Just hurts, you know? I guess I just haven't gotten many trolls in my life. Spoiled, huh? *grin*
Syd Gill: Cinderella - Evil Geniussydgill on July 2nd, 2007 07:09 pm (UTC)
You know what I think? When someone is so unbelievable good and everything is perfect...the little things that don't make sense, or the one thing that can be nitpicked gets nitpicked! As hard as it is to listen to the negative feedback, you can only take it as a compliment...they had nothing else to say! So they commented on the new/strange/unusual...like B said...even the brilliant ideas get attacked!!! I think both of you guys are phenomenal...keep going and stay positive! So many of us love you two...does that mean nothing??!!!! :D
Lois: Lois Kal-El Fortress Hold Mekalalanekent on July 3rd, 2007 05:43 pm (UTC)
NO! And don't ever think that! *hugs her F-list tightly* No, you guys mean so much to us! It's just that this guy came out of nowhere and it just hurt. It's like getting punched on your blind side. Hard. Like I told B, I'm spoiled by you guys.

Makes you worry what the world at large would think... *bites lip*
Syd Gill: Aladin - applausesydgill on July 3rd, 2007 06:11 pm (UTC)
I know you love your f-list...and I'm not saying you don't! I just wanted to remind you of all your adoring fans...now would their be so many if you didn't have something special? I know when you hear something bad then you questions whether everyone has been lying to you, or is biased...but I hope you know that's not true!

I was actually just telling someone about your writing and I was telling her how daunting it is to write in the Supes Verse cause the authors are so amazing...and how any one of them, (you, B, Lori, Caroline, Abby) could be published authors....

So the world at large would think you're brilliant is what I think! Now you stop being sad and upset...or I'm going to have to come and hunt you down and cheer you up!!

*screams from the top of a hill* Lois and Anissa ROCK!!! THEY ARE AMAZING! YOU STUPID ANONYMOUS MAN GO AWAY!! WE DON'T LIKE YOU!
Barbara: Lois Lost in Thoughthtbthomas on July 3rd, 2007 06:21 pm (UTC)
I was going to comment with something similar to this!

If you have this many people interested in, and enjoying your story, then you can pretty sure your writing would be enjoyed in the wider world. It's a matter of taste, no matter how you look at it. The NY Times bestseller at this moment (I don't know who it is) has a lot of fans AND detractors. Not everyone likes the same kinds of writing or stories.

So does that mean all of his/her critics render the book to be crap? I think all of his/her fans would completely disagree.

*more hugs*
Syd Gill: Hugglessydgill on July 3rd, 2007 06:28 pm (UTC)
B's totally right! And on top of that...once you feel better, don't you dare feel guilty for feeling like this! And I think I speak for all of us when I say, it's our pleasure to sing your praises...and we all need a pick me up every now and then...even though I think you're crazy for EVER doubting yourself - JK :D Give us smile would ya? Please???

*huge hugs*!!!!

I think it was really just that one guy that was being nitpicky and grumbly about the reveal. And what a tacky first post for the Planet. >_< I only didn't say anything, hoping he would catch on that you can't act like that, and of course realizing he would be reading my fic, too, eventually.

I also don't think Vanna meant anything negative with her comments. Like she said, she didn't realize all the aspects of the situation, mainly because she's read so many fics. And really, going this long, you do tend to forget who knows what in what fic. Heck, I'm guilty of that in my own story! O_O

Anyway, you know I trust your judgment on the reveal there. I actually thought it made perfect sense to do it there, when it became clear that Lois and Supes had that strong connection. How could they have *not* seen it? :p

*hugs again*

Just keep writing, and the detractors will be forced to shut up. ^_^
Lois: Lois and Clark Embarassingkalalanekent on July 3rd, 2007 05:50 pm (UTC)
*Groan* I didn't want you to see this one, Ella. It's just that things at BT lately... I just get so frustrated over there to begin with, what with jed and some of the commentary lately. And I'm sure Vanna doesn't mean to upset, but she gets very vocal when she doesn't like things (she's done so more than once).

Maybe I'm just being whiney. I don't know.
sean_montgomery: Richana dancesean_montgomery on July 2nd, 2007 07:39 pm (UTC)
Think of it this way - all of the greatest geniuses of our time were mocked because people didn't understand what they were talking about... until Einstein proved his theory; until the Wright brothers made man fly; until man walked on the moon.

People just haven't seen the bigger picture yet. And when they do, they'll shut up. Or they'll continue to rant and mock because they're jealous that they didn't come up with it in the first place. *hugs*

Pish posh - company you RIGHTLY DESERVE to be in! Don't make light of the affect LS is having on your readership, twin - reviews all over the web prove that. *hugs, shakes head*

Dork. :D
maaike_fluffy on July 2nd, 2007 09:52 pm (UTC)
two words: ignore complainers.

If YOU feel happy with your story than that's it. You're the author, they're just readers. If they don't like it *shrugs* they can just stop reading. Complaining about how they want the plot or ship changed is stupid and pointless.

Yeah, irritating reviewers annoy me, however could you tell? ;)

*officially making myself do the above action to this troll*

Thanks, Maaike. I've only ever had this happen once before (and with the Richana, too. Seems like a pattern.) and it was just painful. I'm way too soft about this story. :D

Nothing strange there. My fic is my baby too. You put a lot of time and effort in that fic, so it hurts when someone says something like that.

*claps hands over ears like Jason* *humms loudly*
Not listening, not listening...

7, love, no! I understood what you and the other regulars meant and I've been made aware that we were being a bit too subtle there with it. We'll be making things a bit more apparent in the next chapter. *hugs*

I'm assuming that you're referring to the "Mann One" comment. Ignore it. Comments like that, which do little more than present harsh criticism without explanation, are not worth getting upset about. Especially when the critic is cowardly enough to post it anonymously (and thus no dialog is possible).

I think that a lot of readers out there truly fail to grasp the level of effort required to truly present an engaging, well-written epic, and are too quick to criticize anything that doesn't perfectly match their perception of The Ways Things Should Be. That doesn't mean that we're perfect, and that constructive criticism is never warranted. However, my view on that is that such comments should be private and offer suggestions for improvement, rather than just blasting away with hurtful comments.

Your story is a gift that a certain anonymous critic is unworthy of. Don't let it bother you.

Mr. Beeto, my personal Clark Kent, ladies and... Wait, this is Brian. *snickersnort*

As I told you in the email I send eariler, have I told you recently how much your opinion means to me? And how lucky I am to be held in such esteem by you and my other favorite authors? I truly am blessed.

Thanks so much, Bri. *hugs*

What are friends for?

Seriously, if all your peers are solidly behind you, there's no need to worry about the troll. I've often made the comment in my review replies to fellow authors that the critique means so much more coming from peers. Your fellow authors know how difficult it is to develop a plot and write action-packed, emotionally intense scenes, and recognize your excellence as precisely that. A casual reader (or in this case, troll) just doesn't get that. And your fellow authors are all delighted with your work.

'Nuff said. So don't worry, be happy.

What? They're bitching about Richana? Pfft. Personally I think the Richana is charming. Besides it's YOUR fic ... you write what YOU want. Personally I think it's pretty amazing how you're able to hold down to such a schedule with updates each week. And you're providing these people free entertainment - if they don't like it they can hit the back button or read some other fic. Or heck WRITE THEIR OWN.

I've had weird reviews before - most of them from ff.net. One time some guy got on me and writergirlie for a fic we co-wrote. Did he not like the fic? No, he said he liked it fine. His problem? He did not like that Molly served tea at the Burrow. I mean ... wha??? People are wacked, that's all there is to it.

*hugs* Don't let the Muggles get you down. <--paraphrasing my other fandom there. ;)

I love what you are doing with this and I'm all for anything you do in the story. Don't let whats said bother you, what do they know..hahah...sorry..HUGS
