Of Genuises Far Better Than I and the New52 Super-Triangle
I've wanted to vent for a long time on how I feel personally about the whole situation and the fact that it's dragging on endless. But every time I start to blog my own feelings, I run across someone who says it better than I ever could. In this case, in a lot of cases lately, therearecertainshadesoflimelight@tumblr speaks far better than I can on the topic.

I just had to pass this one to my friends here.

Now you tell me she's not right.

~
I’ve had multiple requests from people to make this post rebloggable. To be honest, I wasn’t even sure I was going to bother because continuing to talk about this is just so darn exhausting at this point. It’s very easy to feel like, “What’s the point?” When it comes to DC Comics and issues of gender…I think we are all feeling more than a little drained, tired and apathetic at this point in time. It’s tough to even find the energy to have the conversation because no matter what we do or say there are always people there ready to shout us down, tell us to be quiet and silence us. I know some really brilliant women who just flat out don’t have the strength to engage anymore and frankly, I’m nearing that point myself.

The rest is here.

I agree 100% with that post.

Sigh.

It's just so frustrating because it would be so much easier to just keep Diana's relationship with both Clark and Lois the same. It's ridiculous that they've pandered to the fanboys so much. DC has just become a parody of what it was in the 90s. Just breaks my heart.

Yeah - the comment about taking two very powerful and strong female characters and putting a dick between them sums it all up for me. Sigh. It also feels (to me) like they're making a statement that Clark and Diana can't simply just be friends - and if two super powered people can't do it then mere humans can't take a man and a woman and - gasp! - not get sex involved. Meh.

Yep. I wish I was half as good at meta as she is. Seriously. I can't essay to save my life; I never could. Feel like I'm letting fandom down over there on Tumblr by not speaking out more on my thoughts on things, but why rock the boat when someone does it SO much better? Between she and since1938, what more is there to say? I mean, these ladies. *just shakes head* I'll stick to writing fic, which I'm at least decent at.

And it gets more and more obvious that DC just doesn't give a fuck anymore. It's turned into a frat house that publishes its own comics. I mean, anyone that read comics back in the 90s would be horrified. They're just doing anything, anything for attention. So much of it's very male-gaze, SO much pure wish-fulfillment. These are comics for middle-aged men with porny minds. It's no wonder kids don't read comics anymore, which the art and the story-lines what they are.

And, of course, they had to break down the unbreakable. For years, all we girls ever heard about was the goddamn Superman/Wonder Woman fanboy drooling that I've had to listen to since I was in junior high. And the whole Man of Steel, Woman of Kleenex thing, which just makes me want to set the world on fire. All of it is bullshit and always has been. It's a really sad, horrible world when we have to break Superman down into what he is in comics right now. The whole relationship thing with Diana and Clark, with Clark still half in love with Lois, is so OOC. Not only that, I'm seen implications that he's thought about cheating on Diana with Lois.

So what? This is supposed to make the Clois fans stand on the sidelines and cheer if and when it happens? Did you ever stop and think that that would make him MORE OOC, DC, and we'd just walk away in disgust if that happened?

GRRRRRR.

*shuffles feet* Sorry, I kinda have feelings about this. Just a little.

Amen. Amen. Amen. A thousand times Amen.

My biggest question is: if all of this is so SCREAMINGLY obvious to us, why do those superior-feeling teenage boys at DC not see just how horrible what they're doing is? I mean, it's just pure character assassination. *headdesk*

I mean this with total sincerity:

This is, without a doubt, the best thing you have ever written. I'm especially fond of the part where you say they took two of the most beloved feminist icons and put a dick between them. And not just any dick, a SUPER dick. If I didn't have children who would question my clothing, I would print that on a shirt and wear it! AT COMIC CON!

Not even kidding.

Sadly, I didn't write it. This is one of the writers I wish I could write meta like. This is therearecertainshadesoflimelight over at Tumblr.. She's incredible.
