Dear Mr. Snyder,

You seem to have mixed up your casting asides. Amy Adams is LANA LANG, not LOIS LANE. I love her, hell I fucking ADORE her, but this casting? I wanted to keep my hope alive. I really did. This doesn't even have to do with Rashida not getting the part. It has to do with the fact that I just can't handle the choices any more. I'm sorry, but I've gone from dubious to disbelief. It's not that Amy won't try her heart out and she can handle some of the spunk, but she's Lana. Period. End of story.

So sorry we couldn't do business,

Humm, Lana!! You know I love her; she's a wonderful actress, an Oscar nominee, but it appears she's not 'spunky' enough, right??

IDK, wait and see; still my attitude!! I really hope she knocks it out the park; I really do.

Sadly, I adore her, but I'm planning sitting this one out. I'm sticking with SR and the RV films. I just can't get caught up in all this again, not from the start. I'll likely see it at some point. I just don't have any interest in the way this seems to be going. I hope that the rest of you enjoy. :D

Right there with ya', sweetie. This just does NOT work. At all. So, I'll bring the Kryptin, you bring the snacks, and we'll live in denial and nostalgia for a while.

Sounds excellent to me. I just can't believe he cast the modern LANA FUCKING LANA as Lois Lane. Other than Henry, I've been skeptical so far. THIS? Ended it. You know I love her, but this is just too big a leap.
glorygirl72glorygirl72 on March 28th, 2011 01:37 am (UTC)
What I want to know is where's the edge? Lois Lane has edges. Lots of them! It’s her thing!! It's that quality of roughness combined with her huge heart that makes her Lois freaking Lane! And dude? Lois Lane ain't no freaking DISNEY PRINCESS!!

Not surprised though, look at the way they cast Laurie in Watchmen. Sure she looked the part, but girl could not act her way out of a paper bag, let alone global annihilation. Snyder has proven once again that women in his films are there to get fu*ked and look good in latex. What am I saying? Like he needs to ever prove that again after creating Sucker Punch. Shudders…

My only hope is Nolan can reign him in.

Okay. Done ranting now.
Lois: EPBOD :: Firefly :: Lois Lanakalalanekent on March 28th, 2011 02:02 am (UTC)
I agree and I disagree a little. We based our EVIL-verse Lana on her performance and that turned out pretty awesome. The problem is that Amy doesn't have the right look and any retorts or pushy behavior will make her look like a bitchy society girl. I just can't see the biting sarcasm or the General's Daughter aspect coming out with her.

I'm just so fucking FRUSTRATED with this film!

So, Sucker Punch was that bad, huh?

Already posted my own thoughts but I think I'm missing something with the 'Lana' thing. Did she actually play Lana something and I've forgot? Or is it just 'cause she has red hair?

I've never really seen her as pulling off Lana or Lois so this was a surprise. Then again, I kinda checked out of the movie stuff when they announced the reboot so whatever.

If you were to put Annette O'Toole from back when SIII was made and Amy Adams head to head visually they are BOTH a dead-ringer for what you'd expect Lana Lang to look like. In addition, Lois and Anissa have used the visual as the basis of an alt-uni that they don't post on here. And she's been used as visual basis of the modern Lana (against Richard mostly but not always) for Superman Returns.

That is the first thought that came to me when I first read the news. Amy Adams is a great actress, I truly love her, but she's no Lois Lane. Not that she couldn't play a good Lois, I'm sure she could, I mean, she's been casted, hasn't she? But she is WAY more fitting in the role of Lana Lang. Period.

:/ idk idk, all of this is just very disappointing.

I know, right? And I so agree with you. I hate that I'll be sitting this one out for the most part. But I'm just not willing to be emotionally-vested in it now. It just... *sigh*

My personal choice would have been Rachel McAdams, but I'll wait and see on that one. Amy Adams was actually quite good in The Fighter, and in that one she held her own against Christian Bale at his psychotic, cracked best and Melissa Leo as an uber-matriarch with control issues. And who knows, maybe she'll surprise us all, like Robert Downey Jr. did with his turn as Iron Man.

As I said, I'm not writing this one off until I see a few production stills and a first trailer. Just to give this horse a chance to run its paces...

it's not that I don't love her and not that I don't think she couldn't hold her own, I just can't see her as Lois. Period. Nothing about Amy screams LOIS to me at all. She's Lana. She's always been the modern Lana it me. I don't even have a way to explain how far off this is for me.

Good luck with it, love, but I'm out. I'll watch from afar, but I'm not getting into the ring on this one. I just don't have the heart for it.
athenesolon: Sexy Clarkathenesolon on March 28th, 2011 02:24 am (UTC)
I almost want to believe this is an early April Fools and we'd find out that she was the modern Lana. FTR, my sister, who isn't an invested fan in Superman was having the same reaction everyone here is. She can't see it.

I can't believe he doesn't see this. I mean, WHAT?! What made him see Amy as Lois? I've seen the majority of her films and NOTHING shows her being the right mix of romantic and hard-bitten cynic that Lois needs to be. SO. FRUSTRATED!

I am so frustrated. She may be a good actress but she is no Lois Lane. I will stick to your reeveverse fiction where Reeve and Kidder reign as the best Kent/Superman and Lane team ever. I am not going to see this movie. Please bring Routh back with either E. Durance or R. Jones or Z. Deschanel. Somebody please wake me and tell me that this Synder/Nolan miscasting is just a bad dream.
Lois: Lois :: Smokingkalalanekent on March 29th, 2011 05:28 pm (UTC)
I truly don't know what Snyder is about with this, but I was willing to go along with it until recently. I'm just not liking the direction this seems to be taking. And that makes me really sad. Really, really sad.

And I'll keep writing the fic as long as you guys keep reading. It means a lot that you enjoy it that much. In my world, they'll always be the reigning version of the pairing.

Thanks, love!
maaike_fluffy on March 29th, 2011 01:23 pm (UTC)
Oh, wow, my whole flist just exploded with comments on this topic. I haven't really been following the casting process, I must admit, but this strikes me as a strange cast, indeed. I got nothing against Amy, but I still think of 'Princes Giselle' everytime I see her. She has an adorable and sweet quality about her that I don't associate with Lois. So, yeah, I pretty much agree with most that is said above.

However, I also believe that a good cast is never possible in the eyes of the fans. I mean; either it's a fictional character--and no actor or actress is going to measure up against the mental representations people have of their beloved characters-- OR it's a character that's already been brilliantly portrayed by someone (as is the case here) and we can never find a person exactly like that. That's why I'm not following the whole casting stuff. Nobody ever agrees with the people they cast...

I am going to give MOS a chance. I am unfamiliar with the guy they casted for Clark (I was hoping for Brandon), and Amy doesn't fit with my mental image of Lois, but I want to actually see them at it. I trust they're both good actors, perhaps they'll make me believe a man can fly. Perhaps they'll be fantastic! I can't say anything about how they fit their roles, until I actually see them in it. Then I'll judge.
Lois: Lois :: Smilekalalanekent on April 2nd, 2011 07:37 pm (UTC)
Yeah, the response to it was pretty epic in either direction. Then again, it's pretty risky casting and it could go either way. That's going to elicit a response either way. And I agree with the casting issue. That really is the case in most situations. I just can't be in on the ground-floor with this one. Everything I've seen and heard gives me a bad feeling.

Also, I don't want this to turn out badly and ruin Amy's career. Part of why I'm so against this is that, in a nutshell. It just scares me to death.

But I really hope it turns out as good as some people are hoping. I REALLY don't want to see them have another failure with the character.
