Got My Hands On An Advance Copy And I Just Have To Say...

It is worth every cent. The Clois scenes are amazing, but I adored the film as a whole. The best one DC has put out yet. Any slight issues I had? I love Christina Hendricks, but I just always think of her voice as being a little more raspy. Love it, though.

ETA: You all know how I love the Donner Cut. I love this one at that level. Seriously.

Even if you don't like the art which is almost exactly like the comic series, the storyline makes it. It's worth it, Bry. Really.

You'll probably get stuck watching it when Ella finds it. Trust me, it's not too bad.

Just curious. What did the other review say?

The reviewer seemed pretty knowlegeable about the source material, but I don't want to repeat it, just be prepared ,., here's the link:

I figured that that would happen. There really were more stories in All-Star Superman, but some of them didn't connect to the major plot-line especially and were honestly side-stories. And if they were going to keep the film to a minimum, they couldn't include it all. They complain about the whole Ultra-Sphinx story being shown although it was relevant to the plot, but there was an entire Jimmy Olsen story they left out there that was part of the series that wasn't.

Not everything made it in. Although I agree that they could have included the suicidal girl in there. It is a great moment and a good way to show the kind of person he is and the hope he inspires. But they are right in that we all won't agree on what should have been included and what should have been left out. If it were up to the fans, it would have all be added and it would have been a three-and-a-half-hour film. As fans, we love the characters just that much.

But isn't that the case with comics, especially multi-issue comics? Everything can't get in, espcially a movie barely over an hour long?

But it soulds like 'a lot' was left out. Too bad about that. I still want to see it.
Lois: Lois :: Smokingkalalanekent on February 19th, 2011 12:18 am (UTC)
Exactly. And I'm not so sure on the 'a lot', but you know that everyone sees these things differently.

MOST excellent. I'm telling you, this is going to be my paid-off-the-credit-card treat to myself!

I'm truly in love. If Man of Steel makes me feel even HALF of this...

Oh, I'm looking forward to seeing this. Though I have to say- this is the first good review I've heard of it...

But I couldn't read the comic book. The art was just terrible (and the art matters a lot to me- else I'd just read a normal book). So I won't have that to compare it too like all the other reviews I've read.

I've heard the fanboy-rants and the complaints about what got left out. I read the series and what I saw here didn't upset me in the least. They left out the side-stories that weren't absolutely necessary. The issues involving Jonathan's death [with all the other drama going on, I can see why it was cut, sad as that is] and Jimmy's small story were the only things left out. Which I can understand, as it was kinda odd.

And I feel you on the art. That's about half the reason I stopped reading the comics [for the most part] years ago. And that the story-lines had started to just.... *males face* Yeah.

I would have loved this even if I hadn't read the source material. I just found it that good.

Y'know I've been rather excited about this. The story itself was rather enjoyable but like Repmetsyrrah and you I couldn't feel the artwork at the time. It looks like this is going to be (only a little) up my alley artwork-wise.

Looks like it's time to buckle down and really attempt to finish my Superwoman (SuperLois) outfit.

Frank Quietly's style is just a little...'puffy', like nmdrkangl said. I don't dislike it entirely, but I don't like it much, either. I just loved the story-lines they had in the series. I really hope you like it. :D

wow! that's some strong words and a positive review. I've yet to see it. Like others here I've read some not so great reviews but I shall reserve judgement till I've seen it. Glad someone liked it :)

I really think you're right. Everyone should form their own opinion on it. Me, I love it. It really did everything I hoped it to. I think the main thing with me is that I understood that they couldn't fit all of the details of the series into a two-hour film. They went with the more epic and stream-lined parts of the story, which sadly meant that we didn't get some of the slight-offside stuff. But I loved it.
