Honestly I'm a little unsure about this rumor/director. And a little Wishy-Washy to boot. On the one hand there's "300" (ugh and lets not get into the character assassination of the goddess Athene and others in the script) on the other there's "Watchmen" (which was one of the few comic book movies hubby seemed to enjoy but that could have just been because of the script). Haven't watched Legends of the Guardians to give a coherent enough thought into it (and considering it's an animation I'm trying to determine how it could be directed by Snyder the same way a live action movie would).

While I actually liked Watchmen and 300, there's an element of darkness to those films that I REALLY don't want in a Superman film. Period. So I'm trying not to just say flat-out that I don't want to get anywhere near it. Then again, I REALLY want to see Legends of the Guardians, so I guess I'll have to see the film to know for sure. And, like you said, it's supposed to be lighter fare (which could act in his favor), but it's a totally different medium.

I'm just going to wait and withhold judgement for now. There are a lot of things that I'm going to have my eye on with this one.

I'm cautiously hopeful. Nolan appears to be creative and respectful enough of the mythos behind the characters to know that he can't direct this particular story. David Goyer also wrote Blade Trinity which I love above all things plus y'know, the other 2 Blade movies, which elevated a Marvel non-character into fame. Snyder is certainly respectful of the visual canon per 300 and The Watchmen & appears to be playful enough to do an animated film about owls. *L*

Rumour also has it that they're not doing another origin story. Which is fine because Smallville is kind of my live action canon I have hope that they'll have Lois & Clark married and we'll have a lovely look into why their relationship is so awesome. My only fear is, of course, of the 3 movies I've named, only Abigail Whistler from Blade Trinity was a really kickass female.

I somehow don't think that them not having an origin necessarily means that we would be jumping into this midstream. I suspect we're more likely to see them in the midst of working together but not actually dating just yet. Then again who knows yet? There really hasn't been much spoiled about this movie yet to know.

See, that's what makes me so nervous about this, though. All of these writers and the directors involved have a track record with darker films. Now, while I adore that kind of film in real life, I don't want it anywhere near my favorite superhero. It's like when I actually hear Tim Burton was going to handle a reboot back in the 90s, I was elated. Can you imagine how awesome it would be to make Metropolis Burton-ized, then have this light of hope arrive to change all of this darkness all around? How awesome could that be?

Then I read the script. And he killed Lois.

*gives you significant look*

Yeah.

Now do you see why I watch all of this with a very jaded eye?

My optimism decreased since hearing the rumour that Warner (or whoever) is trying to get the movie in before 2013 which is the year the Siegels & Shusters retain their copyright of Superman (and I assume Lois Lane). So now I'm scared that they're going to make this movie before anything's ready just so they can rake money in.

*sighs*

I suppose the other difficulty is Clark himself who's supposed to be the antithesis of the popular anti-hero. Female action figures can be pluckily optimistic; male ones must very often be torturedZOMG. So it's like you have to make everything/eveyrone else darkened to "sell" his optimism. Or something. IDK.

Just another wee link:

I'm still cautiously optimistic, but Zack's remarks are somewhat encouraging. I think he's on the right track...

Cheers,

Sorry. I'm just trying to vague so I don't stir things up.
