While I Cherish My Right To Alternative Lifestyle...
Straight or gay, Mr. Lambert, it still would have been trashy. I know you're out and proud now, which I can't fault you on, but this was pushing the envelope WAAAAAAY too far. Please class it up before you make the rest of us look bad. *facepalm*

The whole thing has me laughing my ass off. Especially thinking about some of the things I've seen on MTV over the years (the Cold Hearted Snake video, anyone?). But yeah, dialing it back a smidge would be a good idea. :p

I agree. Considering that what? Twenty-years ago it was okay for Madonna to be seen rolling around showing her underwear and singing 'Like A Virigin,' and a few solid years ago have her engaging in a three-way girl on girl kiss, but for a guy to kiss a guy it's suddenly OMG HORRIBLE! *cover the children's eyes* It really is laughable.

While I admit such actions can be tasteless and/or tacky whether you be straight, bi, or gay, and people should use some common manners when in public, I'm not sure award shows of this kind have ever been a place to hold up as a moral high ground and there certainly does seem to be a double standard in place.

The sad truth is that some people are going to judge him based on his sexual orientation whether he does it behind closed doors or out on a stage. Closed mindedness often doesn't come with a side of discerning understanding.

And... I'll spare your journal my rant about people being okay with gratuitous violence in their entertainment but so quick to get up in arms over anything sexual (be it gay or straight) being seen on TV.

:p

All this, exactly! People are saying he doesn't have Madonna's cred yet, to do that, but hey, she wasn't quite there yet back when she did the Like a Virgin thing. *rolls eyes* It's okay for a woman to be shocking and sexual and OUT THERE, but for a man? Oh no, think of the children! :/ Hypocrisy on so many levels.

But at the same time, yeah, the whole crotch thing wasn't so much a good idea, all things considered. Silly boy.

But it's still not ok, though, is it? It's the Madonna-Whore Complex. We as a society want our females to be sexually overt, commercially, but still be virginal and sexually repressed, privately. Hailed for kissing other girls and threeways in public but damned for doing it in private. Men, it's the reverse. They're supposed to be repressed and staid in public but can do whatever the hell they want in private with no repercussions. Hypocrisy, yes, and in an everyone loses kind of way. That way everyone of every gender and sexual orientation is unhappy and anxious.

THIS! I agree 100%!

Lemme add my "amen". Why is blood guts n gore okay but breasts are not?
Lois: Lois :: Smokingkalalanekent on November 25th, 2009 05:07 am (UTC)
And before that was Bowie. Oh, I know. And it's not the 'ick' factor at all for me and two boys kissing is not a big deal for me. Obviously. *LOL* It was more the 'try to tell me I can't' way he did it that annoys me. And I'd be the same way over two women or a man and a woman. It's just gets ridiculous.

Again, being gay, more power to him on not hiding it, but I truly think he went overboard. It was all for the shock value and that just leaves me cold.

But again, to each their own.

And it's all good. Everyone is allowed to speak their mind in my LJ. That's why it's unlocked. ;) The less closed-minded, the better.

I really can see the humor in it, but it was over-the-top. And he had to know that people would freak. Actually, I think that was kind of the point. But still, as one of his own, I wasn't impressed.

I second this! What's got everyone so worked up?

I don't know what happened either. I keep seeing references to it but have no idea what it's all about.

The actual performance was censored on the West Coast, and it keeps being yanked off of youtube for copyright infringement, and most TV news shows can't even show it because it is 'inappropriate' but this vid should roughly give you the idea of what was done by Adam.

I watched it last night... there's difference between a double standard and looking like a I don't know what!!

I just heard he lost the GMA gig!! *shakes head*
Lois: Lois :: Smokingkalalanekent on November 25th, 2009 05:13 am (UTC)
It's been that kind of week: both he and Miley Cyrus looked like assholes in the last few days (stripper pole, much?). He's got a point, but there would have been a better way to make it.
Kattxenokattz on November 24th, 2009 08:34 pm (UTC)
Darnit, I can't find this performance anywhere. *shakes fist at TPTB*

well... I'm torn. On the one hand, I dislike PDA, especially if it's a publicity stunt, as this seems to be.

On the other... go Mr. Lambert for having the guts to do it! I'm sick of how queer-identifying artists, have to act straight (see AL's 'Here For Your Entertaiment' video, f'rex) so I'm psyched that he actually went ahead with it. And since I haven't seen the vid, I won't comment on the whole 'classy/trashy' debate, because honestly, YMMV liek whoa, but ROFL on the fundies going ZOMG THE CHYYYLDRUN. I'd be more worried about what kind of parents let their rugrats stay up until close on midnight watching crappy TV, to be honest...
Lois: Lois :: Ohfuckkalalanekent on November 25th, 2009 05:12 am (UTC)
It's the outrageousness of the PDA that annoys me, honestly. And in one of his first public performances since the album was released. It was totally an over-the-top publicity stunt and that just sours me on it.
