Okay, So This Story's Going To Be Top-Heavy...
Well, the next chapter of Heirs went to beta last night and she's a big one. A Trip Down Memory 'Lane'  topped out at  8,141 words and sixteen pages. We actually figured for a smaller one, but we couldn't get everything we wanted in a short chapter.

*sigh* So much for shorter chaps this time around, huh? We might just have another epic on our hands, which I'm not sure just how to feel about. So tell me, those who are reading, does anyone mind? We could make the chapters smaller, but you'd lose out on the details. Tell me what you think, O Brilliant Readership. I crave your opinion. ;)

Well, if it makes you that happy, Laurel... *snickers*

I personally would rather read an epic or a long fic than a short fic. Most times the short fics end too soon. LOL

That's usually my thoughts on it, too, but I remember that we had a few readers back in the day that thought the chapters were way too long. :) And I had promised myself that these chapters would be smaller. I guess the characters have better control over the fic than we do, huh? *LOL*

I like long chapters when the story is being posted chapter by chapter

P.S. If you don't do as the characters say you piss them off and they won't tell you their story anymore. Please don't piss off the characters. LOL ;-)

*LOL* *hugs back* Seeing as how she's been claiming my brain as her territory since I was about eleven or so, I think it's safe to say that Lois, at least, has no intentions of leaving. Even if I threw her out. ;) And I adore the whole cast, so it works out. Heck, they still love me even when I make the couples fight. I'm lucky. *snuggles her huge cast*

Gods, I almost forgot I had a chapter to beta, with all that's been going on here. O_o *breathes*

I'll try to get that done tomorrow.

As for Heirs growing to epic proportions, you know I don't mind one bit. :p

Geez. *bites lip* I didn't know that you were that pressed for time. We don't need it until Friday, if that makes it any easier.

*LOL* I hope you don't, because I think she's going to grow whether we mind it or not. Good thing the verdict has been more 'for' than 'against'! :D

Don't change your writing, it is what we love about your fic!! Idea aren't everything, you need to know how to share it and you two are totally awesome in the way you write!! Don't go and try to give you limits! No words maximum, take all the time you need... we just want what you can do best: awesome & long chapters!! :D

Awww! Thanks, Kat! *snuggles* I had just worried that it might be a little intimidating for people to have to read these monsterously huge chapters, but it seems that everyone likes them that way! *LOL* If that's the case, far be it from me to change it. And it means a lot that people love our work enough to read that much willingly.

*love you, too*

You honestly think we mind? :)

Well, I can remember a few people fussing during LS about the huge chapters, but it seems that that's not the case with the sequel. *shrugs and grins* I stand corrected!

Oh, thanks so much for popping up and saying so! It means twice as much when it comes from someone who tends to lurk! *hugs* And thanks for the encouragement and the reading. From the sounds of the replies we've gotten, I don't think we'll try to reign the Muse in, then!

Thanks again!

Humm, that's a tough question. I actually don't mind longer chapters. I love details.... it fleshes out the characters and the story. And the fact that the updates are longer in between, longer chapters are more appealing! Does that make sense? Anyway, hope my two cents helps!
Lois: Heirs :: Elise :: Ms. Thornekalalanekent on November 11th, 2008 05:04 am (UTC)
I could see the appeal of the long ones since we've changed the post dates. *nods* I know that I'm the same way when I have to wait for something and it is pretty satisfying to have a big chunk after a long wait. And I know you know that we are just detail-obsessed. Especially with this family.

Okay, I don't think we have to worry about us watching the word count again soon! ;)

Three words: don't ever stop.
If I went through the complete novels of Jane Austen at 14, the Lord of the Rings trilogy at 15, and most Tom Clancy novels, not to mention quite a good number of bricks along the way (including Tolstoy and Dumas), lenghty chapters and details do not daunt me at all. So long as it's relevant to the storyline and not inane filling-in, then it's all the more, the merrier, I say.

As the same kind of reader, I would agree. I think my biggest worry was that we might bore some of the audience with an overabundance of detail. You know us; we loooove for you guys to be able to see the details of the events perfectly as they happen. But that puts some people off, especially when the word count soars. I love that that doesn't seem to daunt our readership at all, from the sounds of the replies we got.

In that case, we'll keep leaving the Muse off the leash, then. Seems that everyone (including us) is happier that way.

*hugs* Thanks, Laure!
