I Guess This Is the Part Where I Promise Not To Grouse Anymore...
and just finish LS when it's time. We're almost done with this Arc and we have one last three chapter epilogue. The only question becomes, since it seems to be running too long for some fans, I put a question to you:

ETA: Stupid poll set-up isn't wanting to work so just reply in comments. After three re-dos, I give up!

AETA: Just for the record, this isn't about how many reviews we recieve. I know that some of you aren't comfortable with leaving them or are unsure what to say. Don't think you're being scolded in the least. I love you, reviews or no reviews. It's more about knowing if we've gone on too long. There is still more to come, but I know alot of people were in this for the action, so this is just letting both of us touch base with you. All is well! *hugs and kisses*

Shall we continue on until we reach our planned ending, which might finish it out at 80 chapters or skip the Christmas re-write and go straight to the end after chapter 70?

Just Go Ahead And End It! Where It Is! What's With This Freakin' Huge Epic? ;)

Do what you planned, but hurry up and finish!

Take you time and do what you had planned; I've been waiting for this.

I'm fine with skipping 'Christmas with the Kents' and going to the finale.

You're welcome to post anonymously if you like. I'm just curious. I'm still more than happy to continue the last twelve chapters I have planned and close it out with a bang. In the end, I'm happy with the story and the journey it's taken. Especially since only we know we're going to do in the end. :)

I want to see what you had planned. I can't seem to vote for some reason. So I'm putting my answer in your comments here. LOL

The Poll
Uh, the submit button isn't working - hard to get a result that way.

Re: The Poll
Sorry, the poll isn't wanting to work on my LJ. First-time poller and don't know how it fix the 'submit' button. *shrugs*

I can't just vote...so I'll tell you here :D

I honestly love the entire thing...and I would enjoy reading what you had planned, BUT:

1. I don't know when that'll be because I'm anal about reading stuff...I'll only read it if I'm in the mood for the story/genre, I have time and I can sit down and enjoy it. Currently, that's probably not going to happen anytime soon.

2. I think that you've created something amazing...but how do you two feel about it? Do you want to write it all? Will you feel unsatisfied about coming so far and not going all the way? Or are you ready for it to be over?? Are you hanging on to this because you don't want it to give up something that has brought you so much joy...and tears??

Anyways...I'm not sure I've given you a proper answer, but I can say, that I'm with you guys no matter what you do :D

Even though that's a NaNo userpic it totally applies *grins*

Oh, I'm thrilled to finish it out, but there have been rumblings again about the length, so I wanted to see if they all feel the same way. Trust me, I'm looking very forward to a couple of events still to come!

*kiss* Thanks, Jedi-Master Tage!

I keep forgetting to ask what you're changing in 'Christmas'. You said it was a rewrite but it is like a total do-over? And you know what, you always put up that disclaimer about it being a possible future, so, if you're gonna do a rewrite, rewrite your heart out!

I for one try not to look a gift horse in the mouse and am grateful to have read everything you've written for LS. I love this universe and I don't want the fun to come to an end, but alas, all things must. Therefore I'm gonna sit back and enjoy the time I have left cuz once it's over, it's over...

For a while anyway. *grin*

You know I'm behind you ladies no matter what you decide to do. I'd love to see the full epic if that's how you want to finish it - like you said, with a bang. ^_~

*huge hugs*

I want to see what you had planned. It is true that I am not very good at giving construction feedback. I am, however happy to have good reading material.
The only constructive feedback that I can give you is that I have a hard time reading your choices of fonts and colors due to my vision difficulties. Even with my coke bottle lenses, I still need good lighting and good colors to see properly. I have learned to compensate so very well that most people who meet me have no idea that I am partially blind in one eye. But there are times when the floaters and shadows do get to me. Those times are usually when I look at light on light or dark on dark. To be honest, there are times when I scan your work because it is just to hard to see.
I do enjoy your work, so please don't stop because some of us are too lazy, busy, insecure,or whatever to give you proper feedback. I appreciate your work.

Winddancer, have you tried to copy and paste the chapter into a word processor and then change the font to a type, color, and size that you can read? I do this every week. I don't save the chapter, but I copy and paste into Word and then I change the font and the size and the color to read more easily on the computer. Altough today, I just printed it up because Hubby wanted to go run errands. That's another option is to print it up after you get it into your word processor and the size and type and color font you want. Just an idea.

I say go with what feels true to you, and to hell with the rumblers- LS is, after all, your baby, and you should write it how you want it.

I haven't had a chance to read the entire epic yet, just the odd one-shot, but I plan on doing so as soon as I get some free time. More chapters= more squee!fodder, lol!
AlphieLJ: Jason's Drawingsalphielj on November 17th, 2007 02:13 pm (UTC)
I will read the whole thing. I don't want you to have to sacrifice what you had planned just to get to the ending becasue reviews are slow. They are slow for me, too. If you need to take a break - then take a break! I'd rather have the story in full than read a cut version.
Barbara: Lois Lost in Thoughthtbthomas on November 17th, 2007 03:22 pm (UTC)
I hope my answer isn't confusing...

I think you should write what you want to write, and to hell with the complainers (like you know who). I love LS, and it can go on for as long as you write it.

On the other hand, I am all about to-the-point in my own writing. I am vicious about it in my own stuff, and I will completely leave out anything that is not absolutely necessary to the end game.

That being said, there are many readers who like the same thing when they read, and don't enjoy what they may view as "detours" to the mainline plot. My stories, because of my spareness, instead get the "ZOMG, are you going to continue this forever and ever!!11!!" kind of review, when I have absolutely no intention.

In summary: you can't please them all.

Stay true to your vision. I can appreciate that you're attempting to be responsive to your readers, but what would be the greater frustration: that it'll take another 3-4 months to reach the end of the story, or ending it abruptly and leaving people wondering about all the loose ends? I suspect that the greatest complaint against the story right now is that the readers have to keep waiting to get the next installment of a great story.

I have the patience to wait it out, and I'm one of those who prefers completed stories to long running serials. I also approach this with a different perspective. I've been disappointed by some fics where the author decided they were through and left us hanging. I also struggled through my own fic to articulate an ending that I felt would be satisfying (and it took forever for me to get that last chapter out). It's also something of a work ethic mentality here - that anything worth doing is work doing right, and finishing what one starts. I'm willing to wait for a satisfying ending, in spite of how long its going to take.

Finally, I think I've said this before. There are some readers out there that you can never satisfy, who are intolerant of anything that strays from their vision of how things ought to be. Ignore their ignorant criticism and stay true to your vision.

Take your time and do what you had planned; I've been waiting for this.

That, and dang it, the two of you are writing this, and you should do it to please yourselves first. Anybody who doesn't like it - screw 'em.

januaried: STM 10x10 drowningjanuaried on November 17th, 2007 06:28 pm (UTC)
Have people actually been complaining about the length of LS? I would be shocked if they have - I can't imagine wanting less of a fic unless I knew for sure that it wasn't going to be finished.

I know I'm not a good reviewer, but I also can't imagine letting reviews affect me that much. Then again, I write for myself, not for reviews; everyone's different.

In short, Take your time and do what you had planned; I've been waiting for this. I'll follow LS to the end, no matter what you do with it.
